QATAR / ARGENTINA / USA: WHERE ARE WE NOW, AFTER 3 ROUNDS ?
Back in Europe after 3 races spent oversea, the Spanish GP at Jerez always feels like a second start of the season. Before we got to go deep in it though, let's see what we can take away from the first  rounds.
1. What happens oversea, stays oversea !
Losail, Termas de Rio Hondo and Cota are special tracks that often don’t reflect well what are the forces in play. A night time race will always be very different from a day time one. The best example of it was FP1 at Losail where both Rossi and Lorenzo dominated before getting back mid-field once the night had come.
The mixed weather conditions from the Argentina tracks makes the race a wild card for anyone to shine even though this year, Marquez took no prisoners there. As for CoTA, the asphalt is so specific (and bumpy) that only Marc Marquez can lap around 1 second faster than everybody else.
2. Yes for Ducati, BUT...
Ducati is having a good start of the season.
Not as good as you could hope coming from Dovizioso, who’s been challenging for the title over the last 3 years, but not as bad as they used too before 2016. You can help but have mixed feeling when it comes to the Bologna squad. They sure have the best bike on the grid. After years of hard work they finally created a beast able to take the win on any track and even able to fly away in the sunset in the right hands. Nonetheless, Dovizioso isn’t shining as much as he used too. Sometimes out of Q2, he’s lucky to be able to save precious points on sunday which is the main reason he's coming back to europe leading the title chase.
As for Petrucci, the life as a factory rider isn’t an easy one. The boots left behind by Lorenzo are not easy ones to take on. While the spaniard needed time to adapt, once it all clicked into place he was one of the strongest contender of last year’s championship before being stroked with bad luck.
So far Petrucci isn’t meeting the expectations but again, employed to be number 2, what could they really asked him more to do ?
3. YAMAHA: 50/50
There’s a strange situation going on at Yamaha.
The bike doesn’t seems to have improved a lot compared to last year and yet, in the hands of Valentino Rossi, it’s a major threat every sundays, sometimes even though he was struggling in FP. The Doctor seems to be in the form of his life. Now he still hasn’t won and Marquez & Dovizioso will make this harder and harder for him yet this seems to be a now or never kind of situation for the 10th title.
On the other side of the box, Maverick’s new number isn’t hiding his weaknesses. The same as always: starts is still a huge problem for the spaniard, always loosing ground in the early laps even though he has the same pace as the leaders by the end of the race.
4. It’s hard to shine @ Honda near MM93
Marc Marquez might have lost and tumbled at CoTA ending his streak of US victories, but what he showed during the first 3 races of the year still is pretty clear to anyone who’s not wearing tinted glasses: only Marquez can beat Marquez. Still a phenomenon, his injured shoulder surgery during winter didn’t stopped him one bit. As fast as ever, he’s almost unbeatable if he doesn’t make a mistake on his own. His only let down though is the RCV.
Together with Lorenzo, the spaniards suffered quite a few mechanical problems on their bike sometimes resulting on missing a good spot on the grid, sometime scoring 0 points during a race.
Like when he started at Ducati Lorenzo clearly needs time on the bike to understand completely how she’s working beneath him. While somes experts seems to be loosing patience with him again, much like @ Ducati, it’s worth remembering everyone that the spaniard has been on a roll with bad luck since Silverstone 2018. Race cancelled, injuries - some bigger than expected at first - and mechanical problems have led Lorenzo to have little time spent on the bike before the start of the season and deprived him from top 10 and maybe even better. Watch out for Jerez though, Lorenzo loves this track where he always does well and the RCV is always a major threat there. Jerez is always Lorenzo's real start of the season, if it click there, things could change pretty fast.
5. Rins, a slow burn
While he was in smaller categories, Alex Rins showed he had to potential to do great things in GP. Since he took on the factory ride at Suzuki, Rins has been a slow burn but is finally meeting all expectations we had for him. Winner at CoTA, it didn’t came as a surprise for those os us that were paying attention to his progress since around mid season last year.
The bigining of great things to come ?
6. Rookies on fire
To say we have an impressive bunch of rookies this season would be an understatement. First Quartararo is clearly showing some huge potential on his M1 and we can only wish Yamaha will realise that before they loose him like they did with Zarco. Mir is also doing great stuffs so far and mix up with Rins, the Suzuki team could become a much bigger player in years to come. Things are harder for Oliveira. The KTM still is in huge need of progress yet Pol Espargaro’s good result last time out shows they’ll be there at some point.

Speed Read, 22 November 2020
A Ducati 848 that pays homage to the classic 750 SuperSport, a lean, mean and green Triumph Thruxton RS, and an easy-going BMW R650 scrambler. Plus we have news that BSA are set to resume production.
Ducati 848 by JC Racing This is only the second Ducati superbike that Frenchman Jérémie Duchampt has customized—but he’s already cracked the code. Starting with a stock 2011-model Ducati 848 Evo, Jérémie decided to build a modern take on the classic 750 SuperSport.
This build is a clever mash-up of parts, along with some wild design ideas. The sharp fairing is a carbon fiber unit from designed Paolo Tesio’s company, Tex Design. Jérémie modified it to fit, and added a small Plexiglas headlight cover and screen to it.
He also built an all-new subframe, then capped it off with a fiberglass tail section, made to spec by FF Prodesign. The tail and fairing both complement the OEM tank perfectly, creating a silhouette that tapers sharply towards the front. Smaller pieces in between, like new intake ducts, help tie everything together.
The exhaust is particularly interesting—it runs up under the seat, but then exits on top of the tail hump rather than out the back. Jérémie also upgraded the Ducati with an Öhlins rear shock, a Lithium-ion battery, LED lighting and a bunch of carbon fiber trim pieces.
Topped off with a livery that’s straight out of 1975, this cafe racer is a compelling mash-up of old and new [JC Racing]
Triumph Thruxton RS by Unikat Motorworks The Triumph Thruxton RS is the most performance-oriented modern classic that Triumph sells. Its motor has the best tune of all Triumph’s Bonneville models, and it comes with adjustable Showa and Öhlins suspension out the box. But what if you want the Thruxton’s performance, but not its classic cafe racer looks?
Simple: you set Poland’s Unikat Motorworks loose on it. That’s what the owner of this Thruxton RS did, with a very simple brief. Unikat’s client wanted even more top shelf components, graffiti logos and a hit of lime green. The result might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it sure is bold.
To give the Thruxton a less classic, burlier stance, Unikat shortened the tail and capped it off with a small custom-made cowl. They ditched the classic taillight assembly for a slim LED item, and fitted a stubby LED headlight up front to match. The tank is stock, but the Triumph’s lines are way different now.
Other upgrades include tubeless Kineo wire-spoked wheels, wrapped in Heidenau supermotard tires. Unikat stripped the front forks to have them anodized black, and swapped the rear shocks for high-end Bitubo units.
The stubby twin exhaust system looks like it runs straight through, but it actually has internal baffles, so that it sounds good without being obnoxiously loud.
Unikat also fitted new clip-ons, with Rizoma reservoirs and personalized Womet-Tech levers. But the biggest job was refinishing the smaller parts in black. The Thruxton RS is a modern bike, and stripping all the little parts off for powder coating (and putting them back) took much longer than expected. [Unikat Motorworks]
BSA reborn, and electric A historic British marque is set to resume production—but not as you’d expect. Indian billionaire (and chairman of Mahindra Group) Anand Mahindra has just outlined his plans for the Birmingham Small Arms brand. And it involves batteries.
Mahindra Group, which is the world’s largest tractor manufacturer, purchased BSA back in 2016, but there hasn’t been much talk about what they planned to do with it, until now. The plan is to set up a new facility in Oxford, England, and release two new models next year: an internal combustion motorcycle, followed by an electric one.
There are a couple of takeaways here. First off, this isn’t the first time Mahindra have dipped their toes in the motorcycle industry; they relaunched the Jawa brand two years ago. Secondly, the decision to develop and manufacture bikes in the UK is a smart one, since it’ll be hard for potential customers to imagine a BSA that isn’t made in Old Blighty.
But more than anything, it’s exciting to see another brand push into electric technology. Some die-hard vintage bike fans might scoff at an electric BSA—but we can’t wait to see how it turns out. [Source]
BMW R65 by Gas & Oil Bespoke Motorcycles Are there any new ways to customize classic BMW boxers? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to do them well. This 1983 R65 by Gas & Oil in the Czech Republic doesn’t break any new ground—but it’s attractive, tidy, and looks perfect as a classic daily runner.
The biggest changes are a vintage Yamaha tank up top, a new leather seat, and a reworked subframe. Gas & Oil propped the rear up on a new pair of YSS shocks, and ditched the airbox for a pair of K&N filters. The battery’s been swapped for a smaller unit, and relocated to a custom-made box in front of the swingarm.
The cockpit’s kitted with high-and-wide Renthal bars and grips, and a single dial. Those are matched to the stock switches and controls, with a small chromed headlight out front.
The overall vibe screams Sunday morning scrambler, but in a practical sense. There are no knobblies or pipe wrap here; just mild dual-purpose tires from Dunlop, and ceramic coated headers that terminate in a pair of classic ‘cigar’ mufflers. Oh, and it has fenders at both ends, too. [Gas & Oil Bespoke Motorcycles | Images by Ondřej Ždichynec]

PARIS: The MotoGP world championship finally gets underway at Jerez on Sunday, behind closed doors and more than four months late, with Marc Marquez going for a seventh top-class title to match Valentino Rossi who is “99 percent” certain this will not be his farewell season. Marquez, the 27-year-old Spaniard who won MotoGP world titles in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, is determined to continue demolishing the competition on his Honda, with his younger brother Alex, who won last year’s Moto2 title, as his team-mate for just one season. Jerez in Spain hosts the first two races a week apart. The championship will then move to the Czech Republic for one race, and then to Austria for the next two, probably still without spectators. Eight months have passed since the last Grand Prix, five since the last practice and climbing back on a MotoGP saddle may not be easy. After a long period of lockdown, Marc and Alex Marquez only resumed motocross training in the past few weeks. For Rossi, at 41, the future is uncertain. The Italian dominated MotoGP in the first decade of the century, taking the world title in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009, but has not won a race since 2017. The Doctor already knows this is his last season for the factory Yamaha team which has announced that he will be replaced next season by young Frenchman Fabio Quartararo. Rossi will have to choose between dropping to a less prestigious bike, probably Yamaha’s satellite team or ending his illustrious career. “I want to continue racing and it is almost certain that I’ll be with Yamaha-Petronas in 2021,” he assured Sky Italia on Wednesday. The first races will give an idea of his ability to fight for the top spots, or even one final victory, which would be his 90th at the highest level. He already holds the record, with 21 more wins than Giacomo Agostini. Marquez is third on 56. In the meantime, the 21-year-old Quartararo will continue to develop at Yamaha-SRT where he finished fifth in the standings last season, his first at the highest level, after a string of podium finishes. Despite four second places, all behind Marquez, the rider from Nice is still chasing his first victory in MotoGP, which would also be a first for a French rider at this level since Regis Laconi gained his solitary win in 1999. Ducati, who have not won a title since 2007, keep the Italian duo of Andrea Dovizioso, a distant second to Marquez last season, and Danilo Petrucci. Suzuki again seem to be underdogs after just two podium finishes last year, a pair of victories by Spaniard Alex Rins. The blue and white riders need to be more consistent if they are to fulfil the promise the bikes showed in February testing. Austrian team KTM had a tough time last year with a skittish machine, and are lining up for the last time with Spaniard Pol Espargaro, who will replace Alex Marquez at Honda next year. Alongside him is South African rookie Brad Binder, second in the Moto2 championship in 2019. The sixth and final factory team, Aprilia, will start the season without Italian rider Andrea Iannone, who is appealing an 18-month ban after testing positive for anabolic steroids at the Malaysian Grand Prix in November. He will be replaced, for now, by British rider Bradley Smith. With the delayed season-opener just days away Yamaha team director Massimo Meregalli echoed the thoughts of all on the MotoGP grid when he said: “Maverick (Vinales) and Vale are both fired up and ready to hop onto their bikes, and also the rest of the team is impatient to get started and do what we love the most, so let’s go!”

August 20, 2016, My family and I found ourselves out and about Houston when we made a stop at a ramen shop for dinner. While eating, I noticed a small group of people enjoying their ramen in cosplay. I love cosplay, so being curious I made my way over and asked why they were dressed up. They told me they just came from the Delta H Con at the Houston Marriott Westchase hotel. This was my first time hearing about the con, I was curious to attend but for whatever reason, we did not go to the con the next day.
Jump to this year, it was time for Delta H Con to return to the Marriott hotel. Friday I was stuck at work hoping to get out early, but that didn’t happen at all. As soon as 5 pm hit, I left work and made my way to the hotel. I drove around a bit and found the spot where the itasha cars were parked, with an empty spot directly across from them, I made that my parking spot. Before joining the con, I grabbed my sandwich and scarfed it down as I watched a few people made their way over to see the cars. Once I was done, I grabbed my camera to snap some photos of the rides before entering the hotel.
After picking up my badge, I made my way to the different rooms to see what activities and panels were going on. To my surprise, one hall had a cosplay chess, where live action role play meets with cosplay combat in this battle of chess. Pretty interesting to watch. I snapped a few photos and stayed to watch a few moves before hitting up the other rooms. As it was the first day of the con, the gaming rooms were pretty light and the anime viewing rooms were empty. I returned to the cosplay chess to watch the battle continue before checking out the other side of the hotel.
I walked around the main lobby of the hotel making my way to the vendor and artist hall to see what all was up for sale. The back corner of the artist hall was the designated area for the LARPing action, which was empty tonight as well. I continued roaming around before deciding to take photos of the cosplayers that were there. With the lower attendance, I decided to head back to my car to grab a light and test out some shots with the flash instead of using the available hotel lighting. Once I was set up and ready to go, I made my way through the hotel stopping whoever I could to grab a photo. This continued for about another hour before calling it a night.
Day 2 started off with a snag, I didn’t have a set time to start but I ended up arriving a lot later than I thought I would. My family decided to come along to check out the con, and they decided to tell me just that morning when it was approaching lunchtime already. My wife started searching for quick and easy Anime costume so she could dress up… so I continued working on some other things while she figured out what she wanted to dress up as and then make the costume. She decided to be some Team Rocket grunts from Pokémon. She headed off to the store with my daughter to pick up a few things to make the shirts and buy a hat. They returned later to make their shirts, and while making their costumes they tried to get my son involved, but he wasn’t interested in cosplaying. Once they were done, they grabbed some Poké Ball we had in the house and I grabbed my camera to finally make our way to the con.
This is where the second snag in our plans happened, heavy rain started coming down while in route and once we were nearby, the streets to get to the hotel started flooding making it too deep to continue on. One car already stalled between the hotel and the shopping center right in front, where we pulled into for a bit to eat while we waited and hoped the rain would come to an end soon. Once we were done eating, the rain had stopped and the waters receded allowing us to drive to the hotel parking lot instead of walking as we had decided if the rain persisted.
Finally here at the con, my son joined me as I walked around the con snapping photos of a few cosplayers before making my way to the Cosplay Contest. The contest was still undergoing preparations when I made my way in so I grabbed a good spot to watch, eagerly waiting for it to begin. The contest began with cosplayers walking across the stage showing off their costumes and props for the entire hall room which was pretty packed. Once that first section of the contest was done, the next segment began with another group of cosplayers going on stage for their performances. This part was great, tons of laughs and ahh’s from the crowd. My wife and daughter made it into the hall room for this portion and my whole family enjoyed it. There were some really great performances, job well done to all those who participated.
Now it was time for the contest judges to make their decisions so they headed out, during this time GalaxyGirl Paida went on stage for some half time entertainment. The crowd was kept entertained while we all waited to see who the winners were. After GalaxyGirl Paida’s performances, the contest judges returned with their final decisions. It was a really good contest, and some of my favorites ended up winning as well. Afterward, I ventured into the gaming rooms to see what was going on and then proceeded to roam around the rest of the hotel snapping more photos of cosplayers until it was time to head back home.
Sunday, the final day of the con, we all returned once more to see what was going on. I mostly focused on getting photos of the cosplayers, but with it being the last day, it was a bit slower in attendance. We walked around again, but this time I spent a bit more time in the vendor hall to see if there was anything I wanted to add to my collection. I ended up getting a few more things for my daughter and held off on getting anything for myself. While walking around, I did see more participation in the LARPing ring which was good to see. After a few hours of walking around, I stopped by one of the panels with the actors to hear some of their stories. I laughed at a few of them but one did up taking me back in memories of AstroWorld. It’s been several years since that Six Flags theme park closed for good in Houston, which is now just an empty lot. After that we headed out, overall it was a great time for my family and I, and another chance for us to see cosplayers and experience more of the Anime culture. Looks like I will be checking this con again next year.

Toprak Razgatlioglu is the new WorldSBK Champion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Turkish rider claimed the 2021 WorldSBK Championship in Indonesia, denying Jonathan Rea a seventh consecutive title. After a hard-fought 2021 season, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) was crowned the 2021 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Champion at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit. Toprak Razgatlioglu is the first rider to dethrone six-time WorldSBK Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK), also becoming the first ever Turkish WorldSBK Champion. Razgatlioglu claimed the lead of the standings after an eventful Donington Park weekend, although his lead didn't last long when a Rea hat-trick at Assen vaulted him back to the top. The lead kept changing hands, with Razgatlioglu back on top after Navarra – albeit by virtue of full-race wins as he and Rea were level on points going to Magny-Cours – before two changes throughout the Catalunya Round: Rea taking the lead after Race 1 in Barcelona before the newly-crowned Champion claimed it back after Race 2. A dramatic Portuguese Round provided more twists and turns with Razgatlioglu holding the lead by 24 points heading into the penultimate round of the season at the Circuito San Juan Villicum venue, whilst the Turkish rider arrived at the season finale with a 30-point advantage over Rea. Second place at the end of Sunday's Race 1 in the season-ending Indonesian Round, Razgatlioglu claimed the 2021 WorldSBK title. At 25 years, 1 month and 5 days, Razgatlioglu becomes the third-youngest Champion of the category, behind James Toseland (23 years 11 months and 28 days, 2004) and Troy Corser (24 years 11 months, 1996). He started his motorcycle career competing in the IDM Yamaha R6 Cup and in the Turkish Road Race 600cc Championship in 2011 and 2012. He then moved to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup for 2013 and 2014. He took one win in the class in 2014 during the Sachsenring event, showcasing his potential from very early on. Later in the year, he made his European Superstock 600 Championship debut at Magny-Cours as a wildcard, winning his first ever race. It was clear that a future star was emerging right before us. In 2015, he joined the WorldSBK paddock racing in the Superstock 600 class full-time, claiming the title in his first season in the category. He then moved to Superstock 1000 for the 2016 and 2017 seasons, finishing second in the standings in his second season and taking wins. In 2018, he made the move to the premier class with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing, shocking everyone when he took two podiums – a first by beating Jonathan Rea in the last lap of Race 2 at Donington Park and a second at the all-new San Juan venue – and was the rookie of the year. 2019 was a significant year in many ways for Razgatlioglu; he emerged as a true contender and after eight podiums, he took a first win in a last lap fight with Rea at Magny-Cours, doubling up in the Tissot Superpole Race. Ending the year fifth overall with 13 podiums and the Best Independent Riders’ award, Toprak switched from Kawasaki to join the ranks of Yamaha and the Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK outfit. In 2020, he finished his first season with Yamaha in fourth place, taking a stunning win in his first ever race for the team at Phillip Island, before two more followed during the final round of the year at Estoril. In 2021, he achieved 13 wins, 29 podiums and 3 pole positions. With a 25-point advantage over his closest competitor Jonathan Rea, Toprak Razgatlioglu becomes the 2021 WorldSBK Champion, the 18th one in Championship history, coincidentally crowned in the 18th final round title decider. The newly-crowned Champion will remain with Yamaha until 2023 and both will aim to continue challenging many records. Their target will be set on making it two in a row for Razgatlioglu.
Tumblr media
Toprak Razgatlioglu, Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK: "First, I want to say thank you to my family and to Kenan Sofuoglu because we are a big family. Also, thanks to my team, they did an incredible job this year. Sometimes we crashed, sometimes we had good races and finally we are here. I’m really happy. It’s a special day for me today because this Championship is for my dad. It has always been my dream. He’s not here anymore, he passed away, but I feel he is watching. I’m really happy. It’s an incredible day for me and we are World Champion. Thanks to everyone!"

ROUND 6: ITALY (MUGELLO)
There’s nowhere like italy, and no race like the Italian GP. With it’s inimitable atmosphere, passionate (sometimes too much) fans and one of the most enjoyable and fascinating track of the calendar, the Italian GP is on everybody’s bucket list.
1. Lorenzo il magnifico
After weeks of speculation regarding his future ans possible retirement, it’s a determined and confident Jorge Lorenzo who arrived at the track on thursday.
Insisting that he has absolutely no intention of retiring, the mallorcan made his point clear in QP where he lost the pole position to Valentino Rossi in the very last minutes.
Second on the grid, sure of himself and in what he believed he could achieved, Lorenzo fired his desmosedici from the starting grid onto the main straight like a bullet out of a gun. He took the lead in the first corner to never gave it back until the finish line.
It’s a classic and masterclass win that Lorenzo delieved on Sunday. He, the man so many love to hate and never believed in, won on a Ducati, in italy in front of all of Ducati’s bosses and ducatisti. Lorenzo’s clear joy, emotions and enthusiasm were not only a blessing to witness but also a proof how just how hard the last year and a half has been for him.
In « caliente » the spaniard stated winning on the Ducati was the best day of his life. The pride and joy of annexing the « Red Stands » with his famous Lorenzo Land flag was obvious but sadden by the fact this story will not continue in the coming years.
2. A win and.. what’s next ?
Behind closed doors, Lorenzo who felt like Ducati were not interested a bit about his case nor had any love left for him, has been maneuvering with his management team, Dorna and Lin Jarvis to prepare a team in which he could get his hands a Yamaha M1, much like his arch nemesis Valentino Rossi did after his red debacle.
Ducati, who is said to have signed Danilo Petrucci just hours before Lorenzo’s win, found themselves in a very curious position indeed.
There’s no denying Dovizioso’s progress through the years, but one can only wonder if he’ll ever really be title’s material. A combo Dovi/Petrucci will sure win races, but it misses that little sparkles, that little something that transform a chance of title into a proper title.
It’s that sparkle they wanted when they signed Lorenzo and that’s that little extra something he could give them if only they were giving him time. At the end of the day, that’s the main problem: after only a year on the bike they asked Jorge Lorenzo to do what their new favorite needed 5 years to do. Can Ducati found a way to convince Lorenzo to stay ? Do Dovizioso and Petrucci have a real chance to get a world championship against Marc Marquez ? Is it too late to keep Lorenzo ? Judging by the mallorcan’s own words after the race, it is: “One side of my heart is sad. I am very happy with this victory but one side of me is sad because I believe if I had this modification before I could tell you that I would stay with Ducati but the pieces arrived too late and the next two years I will be with another bike.”
Ducati’s faillure to keep the spaniard could well end up into a gift offered to Yamaha: a team which desperately need some Lorenzo’s magic again judging by their current form.
3. Some smiles, some don’t
It was a mix of content and frustrated faces you could found at Yamaha on sunday evening.
First, Valentino Rossi, the man all of italy consider as the personification of Jesus on Earth, not only took the pole position on Saturday (his 65th) but he also made it to the podium in 3rd place after one hell of a fight with Petrucci, Rins and Iannone.
The italian, genuinely happy for his old teammate’s win, was on cloud 9 to be back on the podium at the Mugello: « all the training and suffering is worth it for these 10 minutes on the podium ». Awww Our Hearts, Vale !
Less vocal but critical nonetheless, Rossi believed they still could play a part in this year’s championship and urges Yamaha to solves their recurent problems which are the reason behind their lack of win since Assen 2017.
On the other side of the box, Maverick Vinales was way more angry, vocal and frustrated than his famous teammate.
He stated after the race: « Yamaha promised me that i’d win, not fight with satelite Ducatis (...) they have a rider to fight for the championship, but they need to give me the tools for that». OUCH !
Since his last win at the 2017’s french GP, Vinales has been doing the « yo-yo » to the point where, in the very same weekend he can go from being nowhere in to be seen in FPs to 3rd on the grid to barely taking a top 10 in the race.
One can only wonder WHY did both sides of this equation agreed to continue together as early as they did before the season started. (A question we ask ourselves non stop since the annoucement).
4. Marquez couldn’t save it while Pedrosa needs saving
Marc Marquez, King of saves and gravel trap’s favorite Gardener, crashed out of the Italian GP, rejoining the race to finish only outside the top 15, getting absolutely no points, except maybe ours for his determination to try always and forever, but then again, these do not count at the end of the year.
On hard tires, the spaniard made a gamble which would lead him to fall visibly forcing too much on his front to match Lorenzo’s early race pace. While losing 25 or less points might make him frustrated and unhappy of his weekend, it’s the fans’ reaction which infuriated him on sunday evening: “To celebrate the crash of a rider is sad because we are taking risks on the track. I don't know if many people ‘celebrated’ my crash today but, well, it is curious that they celebrate a crash of a rider more than a victory of another. It is a curious thing about bike racing.”
Used to boos and cheers when he goes down since 2015 and his famous clash with Rossi, Marc insisted he hoped his fans will never act like that, in any circumstances: “I said before in 2015 and in 2016 that I hope they support the racing as much as me and respect all the riders. This is the most important.”
Marc couldn’t save his crash but it’s Pedrosa’s situation which becomes worrying for next season. The spaniard has been very quiet about his future. Only a few rumors of a 1 year deal he would have refused coming from Honda have escaped from the paddock (then again, is it even true ?). At the end of the day, it might not be Captain Lorenzo who needs saving from Carmelo Ezpeleta but Soldier Pedrosa.
Rumor has it, Honda, after trying to get Dovi, Mir and Zarco without success, tried to buy Jack Miller back home from his current multiple years Ducati deal. It might be very different from the inside, but looking at it from the outside, we cannot help but think Alberto Puig and the HRC are keen and giving the ride alongside Marc Marquez to ANYONE BUT Dani Pedrosa.
As seats for next season are almost all taken now, it’s becoming a reality that Pedrosa, if nothing happens that could save his current place, could very well be heading home in 2019. This end of Dani’s MotoGP chapter would be unacceptable, not only to his many fans, but to the rest of the MotoGP paddock. A rider should never be forced to retirement, especially not one with Pedrosa’s palmares.
Now i do not know where we have to sign or whom we have to threaten but, if he is without a ride, just give him the M1 on that satelite/petrona team they are building, alongside Lorenzo or not.
5. Honorable mentions
Andrea Iannone was on fire the whole weekend showing a form that could have made a title contender has he only be consisten the rest of the time. He’ll leave Suzuki at the end of the year, surely to get an Aprilia next season.
Zarco was nowhere to be seen this weekend after his missed opportunity in France.
Alex Rins was back where he belongs, fighting for top positions.
Danilo Petrucci couldn’t stop whining about Marquez’ pass on him in the early race and we couldn’t care less because, well, he should remember he does the same pretty much all the time.
Cal Crutchlow was a tuff one this weekend, still suffering from his huge crash last time out.

————kira-kira begini bunyi postinganya————-
Review Singkat Helm KYT Vendetta 2
Moga Berguna 🙂

Tumblr media
AP250 Tim Yamaha Racing Indonesia
Tumblr media
Tim satelit Yamaha TJM
"Every year is different": riders ready for another scorcher at Sepang
It’s almost time for the penultimate race weekend of the season in the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix and before battle commences on Friday, the pre-event Press Conference gathered reigning Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team), two-in-a-row Sepang winner Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), Phillip Island winner Maverick Viñales (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati Team), Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and home hero Hafizh Syahrin (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) together to talk about the weekend ahead – and debrief Phillip Island a little.
First to speak was Marquez, who failed to finish in Australia after an incident with Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3), and he began talking about that – and his bad luck at Phillip Island, which always seems to hit after a title win at Motegi…
“If it’s a coincidence after I win the title in Motegi, then it’s ok to continue like this! I would rather win the title. Phillip Island was a shame but we can feel lucky, me and Johann. It was a strange crash but sometimes it happens with the slipstream, he didn’t stop the bike and I was a little bit wide. I didn’t expect him to be there. He apologised but it was a racing incident, now it’s time to think about Malaysia.
“We’ll try to continue in the same way, in Phillip Island we struggled a bit then in the race we were in good shape so we’ll try and keep our performance here. The preseason was good here, race pace, but now it’s completely different; different bikes and different setups, so we forget that and concentrate on the weekend. We start from FP1, try to work hard, then we’ll see if we can fight for the podium, the top five or the victory.”
The victory is something that’s belong to Dovizioso for the past two years, and he’s eager to repeat it. The Italian first talked about some good omens from Phillip Island.
“We’ve proved our improvement this year in the second half of the Championship and the confirmation was in Phillip Island,” says ‘DesmoDovi’. “It was very important to understand that, but I think it’s not enough. The bike is better because every practice, and on Saturday with a lot of wind, we were stronger than last year but we also still couldn’t fight for the victory. But I think from my side I have to improve some things, I am better at some tracks but I think I have margin to improve with my riding style and position on the bike at tracks like that.”
Then, the Ducati rider was asked about his first premier class podium taken at Sepang, and reminisced for a minute: “I’m happy about that, I remember it well that weekend and race. I had a strong race with Nicky (Hayden), it was my first year in MotoGP and until the last corner we were braking very hard and I was able to arrive in front. It was nice, it was a good moment. This track is good for me but in the past if we look at the results we didn’t take a lot of good results in the dry. The last two years we won in the wet but it will be interesting to see what our speed would be in the dry.”
On Sunday, time will tell. Until then it remains Viñales who’s the most recent winner; back on the top step in Australia for the first time since Le Mans 2017.
“It’s been nice,” says the Spaniard. “We enjoyed it a lot with the team and it’s been a long time since we enjoyed a dinner like that! I think now we can do even better because we’re more relaxed and let’s see if that can help us to improve, and help Yamaha.”
Any specific goals for Malaysia? As could be expected, the Spaniard wouldn’t be drawn: “I want to try to be competitive and be in front and try and finish the season well in the standings. It’s important to not lose this momentum now.”
Next up was Andrea Iannone, who is on a roll and took second in Phillip Island – after a more difficult time at times.
“Sometimes we lose motivation when it’s difficult, but step by step and with hard work we’ve recovered and got very close to the top manufacturers and top riders. I’ve recovered my motivation well and I want to continue like this. From the second part of the race I think we’ve come back really strong and really close. From Japan on we’ve been really close, with the team and the bike and I want to continue like this.
“Sepang is a really good track, every year is different. When I arrived in MotoGP with Ducati it was a difficult moment, in 2015 I don’t remember my result but not on the podium for sure! In 2016 I fought with Andrea and Vale for the podium and in the end I lost the front at Turn 9…we will see. Last year was a difficult race in wet conditions but we’ll see, and try and improve my result.”
Lorenzo, meanwhile, isn’t expecting quite the same. He was on top in testing at Sepang and second last season, but he’s coming back from injury this year and he’s not setting a target as yet – just getting through the weekend better than Japan.
“I feel better than in Motegi some weeks ago, that’s for sure, the operation went well and I feel stronger and more powerful,” explains the Ducati rider. “Obviously I only had the operation a few days ago and took the cast off yesterday, I didn’t move it a lot so the mobility isn’t very good so in two or three days we need to speed up the recovery of the mobility. I’m gonna try, I’m better than in Japan so let’s see if I can race for the whole weekend.”
Asked about why he’s so eager to come back so soon, Lorenzo says it’s more than just time you lose when you’re not riding.
“I want to get back on the bike, it’s been a long time and for sure you’re losing practice, skills, everything. It’s not only about fractures but also your general physical condition. This time I don’t think I will be able to fight for anything big but at least I can get used to the bike again and I think that will help me to prepare for my last chance to get a big result for Ducati at Valencia.”
Finally, the floor hushed to hang on the every word of home hero Syahrin. He talked about Australia, which had big positives as well as the more obvious negatives – and said he’s learned even more coming into his home race.
“First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone, it’s my first time here with these guys! Then yeah, in Phillip Island I expected I wouldn’t be able to do a good result there because for many years in Moto2 I’ve struggled. I’m from Asia and arriving in cold weather in Australia, I’m scared with the weather and wind, and I’ve always been slow in Moto2. But when I moved to MotoGP, the mechanics told me it’s different to Moto2 and when I went out in FP1 I surprised myself I could do well. Then in FP2 I was P11 but – it was a pity and get well soon to him, Cal Crutchlow was injured – so I went to Q2. In FP3 I tried 10km/h quicker than Friday and I lost the front, I thought my hand was broken because when I tried to move it there was a lot of pain so I thought I didn’t want to ride in FP4 and the qualifying, but my motivation is very strong and I tried. After two or three laps I wanted to go back in the box but I kept trying. Then it was the best qualifying or me, and it’s a shame about the race but I learned something from these guys in front of me, I made good lines and improved my braking. I need to work on myself.
“After Aragon we found something in the setup and we’ve improved on braking and turning and we started to gain on Morbidelli but in Phillip Island he made a big gap when I couldn’t finish.”
That battle for Rookie of the Year is still wide open, the fight for second and third overall is wide open and the Constructors’ crown isn’t decided yet either – tune in for the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix this weekend for another Sepang stunner!

ROUND 1: LOSAIL, QATAR
* Batman Voice *
After 5 months in hell they've comeback with one goal: to give us the best championship we could imagine. Yep our now 5 Fantastics and their acolytes are finally back after what has been one very busy winter break due to several major bike swaps. Who are the winners and the losers at that game ?
1. Time to give Maverick a real superhero name
The young spaniard made a sensational debut with his new Movistar Yamaha Team as he took both pole position (even though we were denied a real QP session) and the victory after battling hard with Ducati's eternal Mister 2nd place, Dovizioso.
Top Gun, as many calls him, made zero mistakes during the winter break toping each of the 4 tests leaving everybody with very few questions as to know if he would be a title contender this season. Answer was Yes and, after yesterday night, it's now YES (with capital letters. Yes, that makes a huge difference).
Vinales took a great start but it's another Yamaha riders who took the allshot. He then was quietly following the leaders waiting for his time. At that point of the race i've found myself saying "well Mr Prodigy is not doing any kind of walking on water move, maybe they're all too soon when giving him the "alien" status". I guess i was wrong. I do still think he has many things to prove but his talent is not one of them. The combo rider + bike + tyres works perfectly, his adaptation to the M1 (can we really call that an adaptation though ?) is complete.
I do think his way of riding the M1 is far less superbe than Lorenzo's silky smooth style was, yet the results speaks for themselves: he's in for a great year and Losail's victory is probably one of many to come.
2. One day, it will be Dovi’s turn
We should count how many times has Dovizioso comes close to victory at Losail. I bet quite a few.
Once Johann Zarco was out, it looks like Dovizioso had it in the bag. It almost felt easy for him. This year's Ducati seems even better than last season's and Andrea just knows how to make it turn. In the straight, well, there's no comparison possible. Vinales was smart to gap the italian as much as possible in the very tipsy curvy part of the track because each time he did not, the desmo took no prisoners on the line coming and passing him like a bullet fired out of a gun.
Now thay Dovizioso is free from Iannone in the Ducati box (come one, by know you do know these tow hates each others...) and as all eyes are on Lorenzo's adaptation to the bike, the italian is stress-free and will certainly make a brilliant season (if nobody takes him out THIS TIME).
3. Never doubt Valentino Rossi
The never retiring rider was far from thinking he'd finish the Qatar GP with a podium.
All weekend long he was nowhere to be seen, never really on the pace and totally distanced by his new teammate. In fact, it’s been this way almost all winter.
During the "will they race / will they not" drama Pre-Race due to rain starting to fall in the pitlane and making 3 turns from the track quite questionable, he even looks like he was SO READY to be done with this awful weekend.
I've read on twitter someone saying "Rossi is always lost up until Race time". That could not be more true. There is something happening with him once the lights are off which is just out of this world. No matter how much he was struggling, how far behind he was, he always founds his way up to the front. This could prove itself to be very useful when it will be time to count points by the end of the season judging by all the youngsters so ready to kick him out of the way.
4. Losail and where to found the Hondas
Losail isn't really Honda's best track. Except for Stoner and Marquez, all Honda riders just never really do well at the season opener. This year was no exception.
Marquez ends up in 4th after what was, in his own words, a wrong tyre choice going from the hard he had previously favored to a medium thinking it would allow him to have more grip on the cooling track. The RCV didn't liked that and, after only a few laps, his tires were not cooperating well anymore. Still he took home a 4th place which lead us to believe this Marquez is the one from 2016 while the "all or nothing" one from 2015 is clearly buried.
Teammate Pedrosa had a better winter but Losail is a track he most probably hates. I cannot really remember him saying he felt well there once, and it was the same this weekend. Yet things are much more encouraging that they seems for the Japanese brand and if that was not for Crutchlow's double crash they could have swapped quite a few good result.
5. Bleu Blanc Rouge
Right when the lights went off i can imagine most riders thinking "who the hell is that guy leading us" and for good reason.
Rookie and new Yamaha comer, french man Johann Zarco, made quite the impression on Sunday's evening at Losail making his team Boss, Hervé Pacharal, the happiest man on Earth. It's been a long way coming for these two to work together in motogp. The french guys finally had the opportunity to do it when both Smith and Pol Espargaro decided to leave for KTM last season. The double Moto 2 World Champion, who was refused a place at Suzuki for Iannone and Rins, made a point showing everybody just how much of a pure talent he is.
He looks smooth, precise and easy on the bike. Yes he did crash but when he did he was already gaping some guys answering to the names of Marquez, Vinales, Dovizioso & Rossi... Not bad for a start ?!
I Keep your eyes on Zarco. As we saw in Moto2 he has a unique way of being and work during a race weekend. He's not crazy, not devoured by ambition but if he feels like he can do something, he's not gonna be the one playing it safe.
6. Lorenzo’s challenge ahead
Lorenzo had as much of a bad debut with Ducati has Vinales had a good one with Yamaha.
Yet are these two situations really comparable ? I do not think so. Jumping from the Yamaha to the Ducati is like going from playing with a cute little puppy in your garden to be trapped with a wild lion ready to make a kit-kat break of you.
Most people have very high expectations with Lorenzo on this new challenge. Will he do what Rossi couldn't ? Will he be Ducati's new Stoner ? Reality is that it's far from being fair to put him under so much pressure when even hiw own team does not.
First, judging by the desmosedici's level last season, there's no way he could do worst than Rossi as the italian one was literally riding a P.O.S. back in his red days. Then, as sad as it is, there is only one Stoner and he's never coming back.
Was Losail's race a bad omen for Lorenzo's season ? Not necessarily. He was positive all weekend and found himself being quite Lorenzo-consistent during the warm-up doing a his whole first run into mid 1:56. During the race he was lapping at the same level as the front group but finished outside the top 10 after a mistake he did during lap 1.
The spaniard needs time for adaptation. He has only ride the bike for something like 15 DAYS so far. Dovizioso has been working on it for years!
He also needs to learn how to be patient. Yes, patience is key sometimes. It had me laughing because i was so pissed off to see him act like he did on the grid during the whole "Rain/No Rain - Race/No race" drama. While Marquez and Vinales were both focus and into their bubbles, he was agitated like a child before christmas going God knows how many time back into the pit-lane and making sure Capirossi has understood he really didn’t wanted it to be GO.
There is two way this could end: it can become a very long and awful season for Lorenzo, or he can turn it into a learning process to better himself and the bike before having a go at the championship next year. Either way, i’ll still put a few penny on 1 or 2 wins in 2017, after all he’s still one of the best riders in this world...
